The title of this post referts to an article in byFaith Online by Kathleen Nielson "The Joy of Reading Great Works". I highly recommend it. She discusses literature in the context of the Christian faith and why we should read great books. She also covers what and how we should read as Christians. Especially note the references she sites too. They also look like wonderful resources to further explore this topic.

This is a wonderfully readable history of the Peloponnesion War by Victor Davis Hanson. Definitely for the history buff. He explicates the war chronologically, but also covering its major themes. The chapter titles give you a hint of his unique insights: "Fear", "Fire", "Disease", "Terror", "Armor", "Walls", "Horses", "Ships", "Climax", "Ruin?". Probably the best book to come out of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Incredible tale of wartime survival and a unique look at what it takes to produce the warriors of the Seal teams.
