We got our new laptop earlier in the week. Our old Micron desktop is still in "the shop" at servicemaster getting cleaned up from the fire. I decided to get a laptop to fill in, and when/if we get our old machine back, Heidi can use the laptop for college.
It's hard to get used to it. I ordered a mouse, but it turned out to be a real small "travel mouse" that's the size of a peanut. It was almost as bad as the trackpad to use! I finally got a bluetooth mouse that seems to work pretty well. The best thing about it is there's no wire.
I originally was going to buy the big 17 inch XPS from Dell, but my daughter thought it would be too big for school, so I ended up buying the smaller 15 inch XPS from Dell. The screen is very good, but the lettering is so small I can barely see it. I might need to increase the font size or decrease the screen resolution to get rid of the eye-strain. Naturally two days after I placed my order Dell brought out the new Intel dual-core chip laptops. Oh well!
So far the performance seems to be pretty good. I ordered the 7200 rpm drive to provide the responsiveness. It boots up pretty quick. I'll be doing some Quicken and Word stuff on it this weekend and that will give me a better impression of the speed. The keyboard is rather cramped, but I'll put up with it for now.
Besides a double-layer DVD/CD burner drive it has 4 USB 2.0 connections, one firewire (mini-connector), one ethernet, one phone, a Wireless card, Bluetooth, video, sound out, microphone in, multi-card reader, and a express card slot (don't have any idea what an express card is!!??).
I also bought a Dell combo printer/scanner/fax, so I'll let you know what I think of it. I'm usually a HP man for printers and scanners, but I thought I'd give Dell a try this time.
I'll keep you posted on how this laptop works out. Stay tuned.
