I've refrained from commenting on politics lately because frankly it is quite a circus these days. If the outcome wasn't so deadly serious, some of this stuff would be funny.
Well, it's good to see that our service-people in Iraq have a great sense of humor in spite of immediate circumstances. The picture is from Little Green Footballs via Hugh Hewitt.

This is a wonderfully readable history of the Peloponnesion War by Victor Davis Hanson. Definitely for the history buff. He explicates the war chronologically, but also covering its major themes. The chapter titles give you a hint of his unique insights: "Fear", "Fire", "Disease", "Terror", "Armor", "Walls", "Horses", "Ships", "Climax", "Ruin?". Marcus Luttrell: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10
Probably the best book to come out of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Incredible tale of wartime survival and a unique look at what it takes to produce the warriors of the Seal teams. Riveting and easy read, hard to put down once you start. (****)
Abigail Adams: My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams
Highly recommended. Using the letters between Abigail and John it gives a unique perspective on the relationship these two had, and into the personality of one of our founding fathers. (*****)
