ICE on Tuesday

Well, things are moving again. I'm scheduled to check in at Scripps next Tuesday for 2 days of chemotherapy. The treatment is called ICE (http://www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Treatments/Chemotherapy/Combinationregimen/ICER-ICE), and it takes a while to drip the drugs into your system.

There are the usual side effects. It will be interesting to see how my energy levels are afterwards. That will affect my ability to work if they are low. I did pretty well on CHOP, so hoping things are uneventful with the ICE.

Elizabeth M. Adler: Living with Lymphoma: A Patient's Guide
Excellent book that covers everything you need to know about lymphoma. Highly recommended. (*****)
Victor Hanson: A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War
This is a wonderfully readable history of the Peloponnesion War by Victor Davis Hanson. Definitely for the history buff. He explicates the war chronologically, but also covering its major themes. The chapter titles give you a hint of his unique insights: "Fear", "Fire", "Disease", "Terror", "Armor", "Walls", "Horses", "Ships", "Climax", "Ruin?". If you love ancient history, then this is a must read. (*****)
Marcus Luttrell: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10
Probably the best book to come out of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Incredible tale of wartime survival and a unique look at what it takes to produce the warriors of the Seal teams. Riveting and easy read, hard to put down once you start. (****)
Abigail Adams: My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams
Highly recommended. Using the letters between Abigail and John it gives a unique perspective on the relationship these two had, and into the personality of one of our founding fathers. (*****)
Joseph J. Ellis: Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation
Fascinating history that explores the relationships and personalities of the Revolutionary Generation of the Founding Fathers. (*****)
David McCullough: John Adams
Excellent biography of one of our country's most important Founding Father. Very readable. (*****)
Robert L. Heilbroner: The Worldly Philosophers : The Lives, Times And Ideas Of The Great Economic Thinkers
Very readable introduction to the most influential economic thinkers. Non-christian in worldview though. (*****)
James Fenimore Cooper: The Last of the Mohicans (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) (B&N Classics Mass Market)
Great classic American novel. Action packed story that takes place during the French & Indian War. (*****)

Dante Alighieri: The Divine Comedy: The Inferno/the Purgatorio/the Paradiso
