I checked in to UCSD Thornton Hospital Thursday. Today is my second day of chemo or day -5 to the countdown to zero day which is the day I get the stem cells back. I'll get chemo the next 3 days, then a rest day before the transplant which will be on 6/11. After the transplant it will take a couple of weeks for me to recover before I go home for the remainder of my recovery.
They are taking good care of me here at Thornton. Food is good and the ward is relatively quiet. I'm getting some good sleep at night, even though they wake you up to take your vitals every 4 hours. But you get used to that. They are pumping quite a bit a fluids through my body, so I'm urinating frequently. That wouldn't be that bad, except they keep track of all your fluids, so you pee into a urinal with measurements. My apologies if that's TMI (too much information), but my life kind of revolves around that while I'm hospitalized.
My room number is 366 at UCSD Thornton West, 3 floor. I can have visitors anytime (no sick people or kids please), but the afternoons are best, mornings can be a little busy as they do rounds, vitals, etc. My cell phone works well here, but you can call my room direct at 858-657-6366. Call me before you drop by and I'll make sure I'm not in the shower or doing laps around the ward when you come by!!
Soli Deo Gloria!
